Wheeler Poetry Prize, which runs from September 1 – September 30, and the Non/Fiction Collection Prize, formerly known as the Sandstone Prize and The Ohio State University Prize in Short Fiction, which runs from January 15 – March 1.
In addition to publication, each award carries with it a cash prize.

The 2019 judge for the Non/Fiction Prize is Nick White.Cobb, Charlotte Holmes, Elizabeth Kadetsky, and Toby Thompson.Undergraduate students at Penn State are also eligible to apply the the BA/MA Program in English, with a focus in Creative Writing.And they learn from the greats as they attend readings by some of America's most exciting novelists, short story writers, poets, and nonfiction writers, who also visit their classes and answer their questions as part of The Mary E.Rolling Reading series and the Steven Fisher Writer-in-Residence program.Writers Diane Ackerman, Nomi Eve, Ruth Ellen Kocher, Jane Miller, and Chinelo Okparanta also caught the interest and earned the respect of their professors and fellow students as they crafted their early work in our classes.Core creative writing faculty: In poetry: Julia Kasdorf and Shara Mc Callum; in prose, William J.Nick White is the author of two books of fiction: Sweet and Low, a collection of stories, and How to Survive a Summer, a novel.His fiction, essays, and poetry have appeared in a variety of journals, including The Kenyon Review, The Hopkins Review, Electric Literature’s Required Reading, Catapult, Indiana Review, and elsewhere.With an additional year of study, students earn both a BA and an MA in English, polish their writing, gain teaching experience, and prepare for the next step in their writing careers.
