This blog is intended to be a continuation of my sea turtle series, so for basic information about sea turtle biology and behavior you can check out Sea Turtles Part 1 and if you’re interested in the threats that sea turtles face including disease, parasites, predators and human impacts you can go see Sea Turtles Part II.

Now that I’ve covered the basic backgrounds of sea turtles in general, I’d like to go into specifics about what makes each species unique.

As the warm blood from the arteries flows past the vein, they transfer heat to the veins before the veins lose their heat to the surface of the skin.

With a counter current heat exchange system, the veins don’t carry cold blood back to the heart and lower the core body temperature – when the blood gets back to the lungs and heart it is warm.

Predators such as raccoons, crabs and ants raid eggs and hatchlings still in the nest. One issue that people need to start helping with is sea turtle extinction. Fishing is the biggest threat to sea turtles today.

Once they hatch, they become meals for birds, crabs and a bunch of predators in the ocean. The second type of sea turtle I am going to tell you about is called the Kemps Ridley sea turtle. Unlike most sea creatures, it is a cold-blooded reptile. Sea turtles can be caught in almost any type of fishing net and with the increase in fishing fleets around the world it increases the threats to sea turtles. This net allows sea turtles to escape but most shrimp to stay in. In some places sea turtle's shells are wanted for making jewelry. I was ready to join my turtle sibling on the journey to the sea. That's when it struck me, there were no other little turtles around me, just a white sea of broken shells. I began to slowly open my eyes, when a bit of the reflected light that was guiding me, had shed just enough light on bodies in the distance moving forward, the body of other sea turtles, the bodies of my siblings. I defied the odds this far I was going to reach the sea. Then the lapping sound subsided and I found myself lost again, my last source guiding me to the sea was gone. The compare is between "The World on the Turtle's Back" and "Genesis 1-2" In Genesis we can see that God created heaven, and earth. "The gathering together of the waters he called Seas" (Genesis chap.1). Their sleek bodies and large flippers make them remarkably adapted to life at sea. They have hard shells to protect them from the one predator they have. Unlike most sea creatures, it is a cold-blooded reptile. The book The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, is about an old man, Santiago, and his genuine fondness of the sea.

This omnivorous turtle searches in surface waters or dives to depths of at least 150 meters (500 feet) to feed on shrimp, crabs, sea urchins, mollusks, tunicates, and jellyfish. Every day he travels out to sea to go fishing which is his occupation. "Most people are heartless about turtles because a turtle's heart will beat for hours after it has been cut up and butchered. Since Santiago has spent so many years of his life at sea he sees the beauty of the sea and the beauty of its creatures. But they were the falsest thing in the sea and the old man loved to see the big sea turtles eating them." ...

The arteries and veins of the leatherback are formed in a tight network in its flippers.

Arteries are the blood vessels that flow from the heart into the limbs, and veins flow from the limbs back to the heart.
